According to recent data from INEGI’s Registered Death Statistics (EDR), the states of Coahuila and Durango recorded mortality rates significantly below the national average during 2025. While the national average stood at 584 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, Coahuila reported a rate of 507, and Durango recorded 480.
The statistics reveal that heart disease, diabetes mellitus, and malignant tumors remained the leading causes of death nationwide. Both Coahuila and Durango consistently performed better than the national benchmarks across these categories. For heart-related conditions, the national average was 136 deaths per 100,000; Coahuila and Durango reported lower figures of 117 and 126, respectively. Similarly, regarding diabetes, both states remained well below the national average of 81.8, with Coahuila at 64.7 and Durango at 61.9. Finally, the states also ranked among those with the lowest indices for deaths caused by malignant tumors.
Overall, 89.8% of deaths in Mexico during 2025 were attributed to health-related issues, while 10.2% were linked to external causes such as accidents, homicides, and suicides.
